Tom Foley was a professional baseball player born on September 9, 1959, in Columbus, Georgia. Foley began his professional baseball career in 1977 when he was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the third round. However, Foley's most notable success came as a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates. He played for the Pirates from 1981 to 1986, primarily as a shortstop and second baseman. Foley was known for his reliable defense and ability to hit for contact. Foley continued his career as a utility player with the Montreal Expos, playing for them from 1987 to 1990. He then spent a season with the New York Yankees in 1991 before finishing his playing career with the Seattle Mariners in 1995. Overall, Foley played in 1,215 games over the course of his 13-year career, accumulating 814 hits, 84 stolen bases, and a lifetime batting average of .252.

After retiring as a player, Foley became a coach and manager in the minor leagues. He also served as a coach for several Major League teams, including the Cincinnati Reds, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, and Pittsburgh Pirates. Foley's contributions to baseball were recognized when he was inducted into the Columbus (GA) State University Hall of Fame in 1991, and the Chattahoochee Valley Sports Hall of Fame in 1994.
