Tommy Davis is a former Major League Baseball outfielder who played from 1959 to 1976. He was born on March 21, 1939, in Brooklyn, New York, and began his baseball career playing in the Negro Leagues before being signed by the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1956. Davis made his Major League debut with the Dodgers in 1959 and quickly established himself as a talented player. He played for several teams throughout his career, including the Dodgers, Mets, White Sox, Orioles, and Athletics.
Davis' best season came in 1962 when he played for the Dodgers and won the National League batting title with a .346 batting average. He was also named an All-Star that year and finished second in the National League MVP voting. Davis continued to play at a high level throughout the 1960s, leading the league in hits twice and finishing in the top ten in batting average five times. He was known for his ability to hit for both power and average, as well as his speed on the basepaths.
Despite suffering a serious leg injury in 1965 that many thought would end his career, Davis continued to play for another decade. Tommy Davis is remembered as one of the most talented and consistent players of his era, and his contributions to the game of baseball are still celebrated today.
