Tommy Greene Autographs
Tommy Greene was born on April 6, 1967, in Lumberton, North Carolina, and played baseball at Whiteville High School before he was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the first round of the 1985 amateur draft. Greene started his professional career with the Macon Braves of the Class A South Atlantic League in 1986.
After years of working through the minor leagues, Greene made his major league debut with the Braves on July 12, 1989, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He quickly became a vital part of the Braves' pitching staff as a right-handed starter. In 1991, Greene went 16-4, with a 3.42 ERA, helping lead the Braves to the National League pennant while also finishing seventh in Cy Young Award voting. Vanderbilt University later inducted him into their Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002, honoring his outstanding baseball career.
Despite battling injuries throughout his career, Greene was an integral part of the Braves pitching rotation in the early 1990s. Over seven seasons, he garnered a 62-43 record with an ERA of 4.14 for his career. A highlight of his career came in game one of the 1995 National League Championship Series against the Cincinnati Reds in which he threw a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits en route to a 2-0 Braves victory. Despite injuries hampering him in the later years of his career, Greene remained a fan favorite in Atlanta and left a significant impact on the Braves organization.
