After being drafted in the 13th round of the 2008 MLB draft by the Chicago Cubs, Campana played in the minor leagues for several years, showcasing his elite speed and defensive abilities. He made his MLB debut on May 17, 2011, and quickly became a fan favorite due to his exciting style of play. Despite his small stature (listed at 5-foot-8 and 165 pounds), Campana proved to be a valuable asset on the basepaths, stealing 54 bases in just 95 games in 2011, the most by a Cubs player since Hall of Famer Billy Williams in 1970. He finished his rookie season with a .259 batting average and 24 RBIs in 95 games.

Campana played for the Cubs for two more seasons before being traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks in February 2013. He spent a season and a half in Arizona, serving mainly as a pinch-runner and defensive replacement, before being traded to the Los Angeles Angels in July 2014. He played in just six games for the Angels before being designated for assignment and eventually released. Campana signed a minor league deal with the Chicago White Sox in December 2014 but did not play in the majors for them. He spent the 2015 season playing in the minor leagues for the Washington Nationals and the Triple-A affiliates of the Seattle Mariners and the Kansas City Royals before retiring from professional baseball in March 2016.
