Tony Fernandez was a former baseball player who played as a shortstop in Major League Baseball (MLB). He was born on June 30, 1962, in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic. Fernandez was signed by the Toronto Blue Jays as an amateur free agent in 1979 and made his major league debut with the team in 1983 at the age of 20. Fernandez was a five-time All-Star and won four Gold Glove Awards during his career. He was also a key player in the Blue Jays' World Series championship team in 1993.
