Tony Phillips was an American professional baseball player, born on April 25, 1959, in Atlanta, Georgia. He studied at Roswell High School and later on, joined the New York Mets as a second-round pick in the 1978 amateur draft. In 1982, he made his debut for the Oakland Athletics, playing second base. However, his versatility and ability to play several positions worked in his favor, and he became a fixture on the team as a utility player who could play outfield, third base, and even shortstop.
