Tony Taylor was a Puerto Rican professional baseball player and coach who was known for his versatility on the field. He was born on December 19, 1935, in Central Almirante Norte in Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic. Taylor started his professional career in 1958 with the Philadelphia Phillies as a shortstop. Over the course of his 19-year career, he accumulated 2,007 hits, 234 stolen bases, and a batting average of .261. He was an All-Star in 1960, 1961, and 1962, and he won a Gold Glove award in 1960. After retiring as a player in 1976, Taylor continued his baseball career as a coach for the Phillies, the Orioles, the Marlins, and the Nationals.
