On October 1, 1961, Stallard was on the pitching mound for the Mets in their last game of the season against the legendary player Roger Maris and the New York Yankees. Maris was just one home run away from breaking Babe Ruth's record of 60 in one season. Stallard pitched carefully to Maris, but in the fourth inning, Maris finally hit the home run, making history. Despite the disappointment of giving up the famous record-breaking home run, Stallard later said he was proud to be part of a historical moment in baseball.

Stallard retired from baseball in 1970 after playing for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Pirates. In his baseball career, Tracy Stallard had a record of 30-57, an earned run average of 4.17, and had struck out 422 batters. Stallard's contribution to baseball history is not only giving up Maris's record-breaking home run but also his dedication and hard work to become a Major League Baseball player for several years.
