Ty Cline was born on June 15, 1939, in Hampton, South Carolina. He developed a passion for baseball from a young age and played for his high school team. Cline began his professional baseball career with the Austin Braves in the Class AA Texas League in 1961. He had a breakout season in 1962 when he played for the Yakima Braves in the Class A Northwest League. His impressive performances caught the attention of the Braves’ management, who soon called him up to the Major Leagues. In his debut season in 1963, Cline played in 125 games and batted .238 with 4 home runs and 28 runs batted in.

Cline played in the Major Leagues for nine seasons from 1963 until 1971. He played primarily as a reserve outfielder for the Milwaukee Braves, the Atlanta Braves, and the Chicago Cubs. He finished his career with a .250 batting average, 17 home runs, and 123 runs batted in. After his retirement, Cline continued to be involved in baseball and coached at various levels, including serving as the hitting coach for the University of South Carolina in 1979.
