Ty Wigginton was born on October 11th, 1977, in San Diego, California. He attended Chula Vista High School in San Diego, where he excelled as a baseball and football player. After high school, he attended the University of North Carolina at Asheville, where he continued to play baseball at a high level. Wigginton started his professional career playing in the minor leagues for the Mets. He made his major league debut for the Mets in 2002, playing primarily at third base. In 2003, he was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he played for two seasons. In 2006, Wigginton was traded again, this time to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
