Vern Rapp Autographs
Vern Rapp was a celebrated baseball player and manager known for his expertise in the sport. He was born on May 7, 1928, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, where he spent most of his early life. Rapp began his baseball career as a catcher and played for several teams, including the Milwaukee Braves, Chicago Cubs, and the St. Louis Cardinals.
Rapp's career as a baseball manager began in 1971 when he was hired by the Cincinnati Reds. He led the team to a 79-83 record in his first season as manager. However, the following year, he took the team to a division championship, securing his position as one of the game's top managers. In 1983, Rapp became the manager of the St. Louis Cardinals, where he managed the team for a year before his retirement in 1984.
Throughout his career, Rapp earned a reputation as a strict disciplinarian and was highly respected by his players. He was known for his unconventional tactics, including employing small ball strategies and having his players practice with a ping pong ball to improve their hand-eye coordination. Rapp's contributions to the sport of baseball earned him a place in the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2006. Vern Rapp passed away on March 4, 2009, but his legacy lives on as one of the most successful managers in baseball history.
