In 1949, while playing for the Detroit Tigers, Trucks became the eighth pitcher in history to throw multiple no-hitters in a single season. His no-hitter against the New York Yankees in August 1992 was particularly memorable because he struck out 14 batters, a record at the time. He also became the first pitcher to throw two no-hitters in a season since Johnny Vander Meer in 1938. In addition to his success with the Tigers, the fastball specialist played for the Browns, the White Sox, the Athletics, and the Yankees.

Trucks finished his career with a 177-135 win-loss record, a 3.39 ERA, and 1,534 strikeouts. Apart from his excellent skills on the mound, Trucks was also admired for his work ethic and team spirit. In 2007, he was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in recognition of his contribution to the sport. Virgil Trucks passed away on March 23, 2013, at the age of 95. He will always be remembered as one of the greatest pitchers in baseball history. Read even more about Virgil Trucks at Wikipedia
