Virgil Trucks was an American Major League Baseball pitcher who played for 17 seasons between 1941 to 1958. He was born on April 26, 1917, in Birmingham, Alabama. As a player, Trucks was known for his excellent control over the ball, especially his fastball, curveball, and slider. In 1949, while playing for the Detroit Tigers, Trucks became the eighth pitcher in history to throw multiple no-hitters in a single season. His no-hitter against the New York Yankees in August 1992 was particularly memorable because he struck out 14 batters, a record at the time. He also became the first pitcher to throw two no-hitters in a season since Johnny Vander Meer in 1938.
