Šarūnas Marčiulionis was born on June 13th, 1964 in Kaunas, Lithuania. He is a former Lithuanian basketball player who gained international fame and recognition during his career. Marčiulionis started his professional basketball career in 1981 with Statyba Vilnius, a Lithuanian basketball team. He was a part of the Soviet Union national basketball team that won the gold medal at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. In 1989, Marčiulionis became the first Soviet player to play in the NBA when he was drafted by the Golden State Warriors.
