Šarūnas Marčiulionis Autographs
Šarūnas Marčiulionis was born on June 13th, 1964 in Kaunas, Lithuania. He is a former Lithuanian basketball player who gained international fame and recognition during his career. Marčiulionis was one of the best players to ever come out of Lithuania and was instrumental in the rise of Lithuanian basketball on the global scene.
Marčiulionis started his professional basketball career in 1981 with Statyba Vilnius, a Lithuanian basketball team. He was a part of the Soviet Union national basketball team that won the gold medal at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. In 1989, Marčiulionis became the first Soviet player to play in the NBA when he was drafted by the Golden State Warriors. He quickly became known as one of the best shooting guards in the league, earning himself a spot on the 1992 All-Star team.
Marčiulionis was also a significant player for the Lithuanian national basketball team that gained independence from the Soviet Union in 1990. He was instrumental in leading the team to a bronze medal at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. Marčiulionis retired from professional basketball in 2005 but remains a beloved figure in Lithuania and is actively involved in Lithuanian youth basketball programs. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2014.
