Arnie Risen Autographs
Arnie Risen was an American professional basketball player born in 1924 in Ohio. Risen was a towering figure of almost 7 feet and was nicknamed "The Deacon" because of his religious beliefs. He began his basketball career at Western Kentucky University and then went on to play for the Indianapolis Kautskys in the National Basketball League (NBL) in 1948. After the NBL merged with the Basketball Association of America (BAA) to form the National Basketball Association (NBA), Risen was drafted by the Rochester Royals in 1949.
Risen played for ten seasons in the NBA, eight with the Royals and two with the Boston Celtics. He was known for his remarkable shooting and rebounding skills and was selected to six NBA All-Star teams. In 1951, Risen helped lead the Royals to their first NBA championship, where he averaged 14.4 points and 11.9 rebounds per game. During his time with the Celtics, Risen played a vital role in helping the team win two championships in 1956 and 1957. When he retired in 1958, he had amassed 7,633 points and 5,257 rebounds in his career.
After his playing career, Risen worked as an assistant coach for the Cincinnati Royals and then for the Kentucky Colonels of the American Basketball Association. In 1998, Risen was enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame for his outstanding contributions to the game of basketball. He passed away in 2012 at the age of 87, leaving behind a legacy as one of the greatest players to have ever played the game.
