Artis Gilmore Autographs
Artis Gilmore was a professional basketball player from Chipley, Florida born on September 21, 1949. He was widely regarded as one of the best centers to ever play the game. Gilmore attended Gardner–Webb University where he had an outstanding basketball career averaging 22.7 points and 17.7 rebounds per game. He led his team to back-to-back Conference Carolinas championships and was named the Conference Carolinas Player of the Year both times.
Gilmore was drafted by the Kentucky Colonels in the 1971 American Basketball Association (ABA) draft as the fifth overall pick. Playing for the Colonels, Gilmore enjoyed one of the greatest rookie seasons in league history as he led the ABA in rebounding with 17.8 per game and scoring with 23.8 points per game. He was named Rookie of the Year, was named to the All-Star team, and was a First-Team All-ABA selection. In his career, Gilmore spent five seasons in the ABA and seven seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He made a huge contribution to the Chicago Bulls in the NBA as he was named to the NBA All-Star team as a member of the Chicago Bulls in 1982.
Gilmore was known as a dominant force in the game of basketball, largely due to his incredible size and strength. He stood at 7-foot-2 and weighed 240 pounds, which made him one of the biggest players in the league. He was a force to be reckoned with on the basketball court and was known for his incredible rebounding and scoring ability. Gilmore was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011. His legacy as one of the greatest big men in basketball history remains strong today.
