Austin Carr Autographs
Austin Carr was born on March 10, 1948, in Washington, D.C., and received his education at Mackin Catholic High School. Carr then chose to play college basketball at the University of Notre Dame, where he was a prolific scorer for the Fighting Irish. Carr's star began to rise during his senior season when he led the nation in scoring with an average of 34.6 points per game.
Carr was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers as the first overall pick in the 1971 NBA Draft. He soon established himself as a major scoring threat in the league, earning the nickname "Mr. Cavalier." Despite playing for a struggling team, Carr managed to become one of the top point guards in the league, leading the Cavaliers to four consecutive playoff appearances between 1976 and 1979.
Throughout his career, Carr was known for his remarkable shooting ability and his lightning-quick drives to the basket. Despite facing a series of injuries that limited his playing time, he remained a fan favorite and an icon of Cleveland Cavaliers basketball. In recognition of his contributions to the team, the Cavaliers retired his jersey number 34 in 1981. After retiring from basketball, Carr continued to be involved in the sport, working as a commentator and analyst for TV coverage of college and professional basketball.
