Rebecca Lynn Hammon, commonly known as Becky Hammon, is a former professional basketball player from the United States. She was born on March 11, 1977, in Rapid City, South Dakota. Becky discovered her passion for basketball in high school, where she played for the Stevens Raiders. The talented basketball player attended Colorado State University, where she played for the women's basketball team, the Rams.
Becky Hammon's basketball career spans from college to professional levels. She was a three-time All-American at Colorado State University and led the Rams team to two conference titles. Despite not getting selected in the 1999 WNBA draft, Becky never gave up on her dream of playing professional basketball. She finally got her breakthrough in 1999, when she was signed as an undrafted rookie by the New York Liberty. Becky played with the Liberty for eight seasons and also made six All-Star appearances. In 2007, she moved to the San Antonio Stars, where she played for another eight seasons. She retired from professional basketball in 2014 as one of the most successful players in the WNBA's history.
Becky Hammon's impact on women's basketball is not restricted to her professional playing career. She was the first female coach in the NBA, serving as an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs. She currently holds the position of an assistant coach for the Spurs and is considered one of the bright coaching prospects in the NBA. Additionally, Becky is also a motivational speaker and runs basketball camps for aspiring young players. Her work ethic, dedication, and passion for basketball have earned Becky Hammon a special place in the women's basketball hall of fame.
