Ben Simmons is an Australian professional basketball player, currently playing in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Philadelphia 76ers. Born in Melbourne, Australia, in 1996, Ben began his love for basketball in his teens like many other emerging stars. He played for a local club, Box Hill Senior Secondary College, before joining Montverde Academy in Florida, where he played for one season, leading the team to the national championship. After high school, he committed to Louisiana State University, where he continued to dominate the college basketball scene in his one and only season. After crushing his freshman year with averages of 19.2 points, 11.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 2.0 steals, Ben Simmons immediately declared for the NBA Draft, where he was widely projected to be the first overall pick.
In 2016, Ben made an excellent start to his NBA career with the Philadelphia 76ers, quickly emerging as one of the most promising young players in the league. His versatility, size, and ball-handling skills cemented his place in the NBA and helped him take home the NBA Rookie of the Year award in 2018. In his junior year, he was named an All-Star for the first time and was selected for the All-NBA Third Team. He continued to show signs of improvement in the following years by improving both his scoring and assisting numbers. However, his lack of a reliable jump shot was a weakness that had him at the receiving end of considerable criticism, as it allegedly limited his overall impact on the Sixers.
