Bob Weiss Autographs
Bob Weiss is a former American basketball player and coach who was born on May 7, 1942, in Easton, Pennsylvania. He was a standout athlete in both basketball and baseball in high school, earning all-state recognition for basketball before moving on to play at Penn State University. Weiss was a four-year starter for the Nittany Lions and left as the school’s all-time leading scorer with over 1,000 points. Despite his impressive college career, Weiss was not selected in the NBA draft and instead played professionally overseas in Italy for several years.
After returning to the United States, Bob Weiss began his coaching career as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Penn State. He took his first head coaching job at the University of Baltimore in 1976 and led the team to a 34-16 record over two seasons. In 1978, Weiss made the jump to the NBA as an assistant coach for the then-newly-formed San Diego Clippers. He was promoted to head coach in 1980 and led the team for two seasons before being fired.
Throughout his coaching career, Bob Weiss held various positions with several teams in the NBA, including head coach for the Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Lakers, and Seattle SuperSonics. Weiss has also served as an assistant coach for the Orlando Magic, Portland Trail Blazers, and most recently, the Denver Nuggets. Overall, Weiss’s tenure as a head coach in the NBA spanned 12 seasons and included a total of 223 wins.
