Brian Keith Shaw, born on March 22, 1966, is a retired American professional basketball player and coach. He is one of the few players in the NBA history to have won championships with three different teams: Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, and Miami Heat. Primarily known for his skills as a playmaker and shooting guard, Shaw played for the Boston Celtics, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, Golden State Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers, Portland Trail Blazers, and Los Angeles Lakers during his playing career. He was also known for his ability to learn and execute new offenses quickly, leading to him being traded to several teams early in his career.
Shaw's basketball career started at St. Mary's High School, where he played varsity basketball for four years. He then played college basketball for top-ranked University of California before entering the 1988 NBA draft. He was picked by the Boston Celtics in the first round and played for them from 1988-1992, winning the championship in his first season. He then moved on to play for several other teams, including the Los Angeles Lakers, where he won two more championships in 2000 and 2001. After retiring from playing in 2003, he began his coaching career and was named head coach of the Denver Nuggets in 2013. He was then fired from the Nuggets in 2015 and went on to become an assistant coach for the Lakers and subsequently the Indiana Pacers.
