Cazzie Russell Autographs
Cazzie Lee Russell was born on June 7, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois. Cazzie is a former NBA player and is considered one of the best basketball players to come out of Illinois. Russell gained fame for his high-scoring play style in college, where he played for the University of Michigan. He played from 1963 to 1966, earning numerous accolades during that time, including two NCAA All-American selections.
Russell was the first overall pick in the 1966 NBA Draft, selected by the expansion team, the New York Knicks. He played in the NBA for 12 seasons, spending time with the Knicks, Chicago Bulls, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, and San Diego Clippers. Russell was known for his scoring ability and was selected as an NBA All-Star twice. Despite not winning an NBA championship, Russell had a successful career, retiring in 1978 with 12,810 total points and a scoring average of 15.1 points per game.
After his playing career, Russell went on to become a coach and served as an assistant coach for several teams, including the Milwaukee Bucks and the New York Knicks. Russell also coached at Savannah State University, where he was head coach for four seasons. In 2020, he was elected to the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame, recognizing his outstanding career in college basketball. Throughout his career, Russell was a role model for young basketball players and inspired many to pursue a career in the sport.
