Clyde Lovellette was a professional basketball player from the United States. Born on September 7, 1929, in Petersburg, Indiana, Lovellette began playing basketball in high school. He was a star player on his team, leading them to a state championship title in 1948. From there, he went on to play college basketball at the University of Kansas. During his time at Kansas, Lovellette set a number of records, including becoming the first player in NCAA history to score more than 1,000 points during a single season. Lovellette's professional basketball career spanned 11 years, during which he played for the Minneapolis Lakers, the Cincinnati Royals, the St. Louis Hawks, the Boston Celtics, and the Milwaukee Bucks. He quickly became known as one of the best centers in the game, often scoring more than 20 points per game. In 1954, Lovellette helped lead the Minneapolis Lakers to the NBA Championship, earning Finals MVP honors in the process.
