Dante Cunningham is a former professional basketball player from the United States of America. At the young age of 34, he has retired from the sport after having an impressive 10-year career in the NBA. Cunningham was born on April 22, 1987, in Silver Spring, Maryland. At the age of three, he moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he grew up and started playing basketball. He went on to attend St. John's College High School in Washington, D.C., where he played for the school's basketball team, the Cadets.
Cunningham went on to attend Villanova University, where he played basketball for the Wildcats from 2005 to 2009. During his four years at Villanova, he established himself as a dependable player, averaging 9.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. In his senior year, he was named as the Big East Conference's Most Improved Player, and he won the Villanova Basketball Award. After completing his college career, Cunningham was selected by the Portland Trail Blazers as the 33rd overall pick in the 2009 NBA draft.
Cunningham's professional basketball career took him to several teams in the NBA, including the Portland Trail Blazers, the Charlotte Bobcats, the Memphis Grizzlies, the Minnesota Timberwolves, the New Orleans Pelicans, and the San Antonio Spurs. Over the course of his 10-year career, he played in a total of 563 regular-season games, scoring a total of 3,307 points and grabbing 2,558 rebounds. He also played in 36 playoff games, scoring a total of 168 points and grabbing 118 rebounds. Cunningham played his last NBA season with the San Antonio Spurs in 2019-20, and has since retired from professional basketball.
