Dikembe Mutombo Autographs
Dikembe Mutombo is a retired Congolese professional basketball player known for his incredible defensive skills and shot-blocking abilities. Mutombo was born on June 25, 1966, in Kinshasa, now known as the Democratic Republic of Congo. He grew up playing basketball at a young age and was first noticed by the Georgetown Hoyas, where he played for four years under the legendary coach John Thompson.
In 1991, Mutombo was drafted by the Denver Nuggets as the number four overall pick in the NBA draft. He played for the Nuggets for five years before moving on to play for the Atlanta Hawks, where he spent most of his career. Mutombo was known for being a fierce defender, dominating the league with his shot-blocking abilities, and earning him four NBA Defensive Player of the Year awards, more than anyone else in NBA history. He also made eight All-Star Game appearances and won two Olympic gold medals playing for the United States Men's Basketball teams in 1992 and 1996.
Mutombo retired in 2009 with one of the most remarkable basketball careers in NBA history. He ranks second in NBA history in career blocked shots and is one of only five players to record 300 blocks in a single season. Mutombo is also known for his philanthropic work, as he has founded the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation, which focuses on providing medical care and education to underprivileged people in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He has also been involved in numerous other charity efforts throughout his career and continues to be an ambassador for the sport of basketball worldwide.
