Dolph Schayes was an American basketball player born on May 19, 1928, in the Bronx, New York. He had a legendary career in the sport, both as a player and coach. Schayes played his college basketball for the New York University (NYU) Violets before turning professional in 1948. Schayes led the Nationals to an NBA championship in 1955, which was the first in team history.
