Don Chaney Autographs
Don Chaney is a former professional basketball player and NBA coach who was born on March 22, 1946, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He went on to attend Louisiana State University and played as a point guard for the LSU Tigers Men's basketball team. During his college career, he earned All-Southeastern Conference and All-American honors, and he also played on the 1968 United States Men's Olympics basketball team, which won the gold medal.
After graduating from LSU, Chaney began playing professionally in 1968 when he was drafted by the Boston Celtics in the third round of the NBA Draft. He played for the Celtics for five seasons and helped the team win two NBA championships in 1972 and 1973. In 1975, he went on to join the Los Angeles Lakers before retiring from playing in 1980 after 10 seasons in the NBA. Throughout his career, Chaney was regarded as a solid defender, and his teams benefited from his leadership and experience.
Following his retirement from playing basketball, Chaney began his coaching career by working as an assistant coach for the Lakers, and he continued to coach for several NBA teams, including the Los Angeles Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks, Detroit Pistons, and Knicks. In 2001, he was named the head coach of the Houston Rockets and led the team until he resigned in 2003. Chaney's tenure as an NBA coach was marked by his strong commitment to defense and his ability to mentor young players. Despite retiring from the NBA, Chaney's contributions to the league and the sport of basketball have left a lasting impact on many players and fans.
