Doug Christie was born on May 9, 1970, in Seattle, Washington. He is a retired American basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for 15 seasons. Christie played in college for Pepperdine University and was drafted in the first round by the Seattle Supersonics in 1992. He played for various teams throughout his career, including the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, and Orlando Magic. He was known for his excellent defensive skills and ability to guard multiple positions.
During his career, Christie was recognized for his defensive prowess, being named to the NBA All-Defensive Team twice. In the 1996-97 season, he set a Sacramento Kings franchise record with 178 steals. He was also a solid offensive player, averaging 13.2 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game over his career. Christie helped lead the Kings to the playoffs six times during his tenure with the team.
Christie retired in 2007 with a career average of 10.2 points per game, 3.6 rebounds per game, and 3.3 assists per game. He left a lasting impact on the league with his defensive abilities, and his leadership and work ethic were appreciated by his teammates and coaches. After his playing career ended, Christie became a basketball analyst for various networks and is still involved with the NBA as a broadcaster and analyst.
