In 1989, Ed Wade left the Phillies to join the Houston Astros as the assistant general manager. Over the years, he rose through the ranks to become the team's general manager in 1998. During his tenure, the Astros enjoyed tremendous success, including six playoff appearances and a trip to the World Series for the first time in franchise history in 2005. He remained with the team until 2007 when he was fired after a poor start to the season. After leaving the Astros, Ed Wade returned to the Phillies in 2008 as a special assistant to the general manager. He played a crucial role in helping the team win the World Series in 2008 and was widely credited for his astute player evaluation skills and his ability to identify undervalued talent.

Today, Ed Wade is considered one of the most knowledgeable and experienced executives in baseball. Besides his stints with the Phillies and Astros, he has also worked with other esteemed teams such as the San Diego Padres and the Arizona Diamondbacks.
