Elgin Baylor was a professional basketball player who played for the Minneapolis/Los Angeles Lakers for 14 seasons from 1958 to 1971. He was born on September 16, 1934, in Washington, D.C. Baylor attended the College of Idaho for one year before transferring to Seattle University, where he played basketball for three years. After college, the Lakers drafted Baylor as the first pick in the 1958 NBA draft. In his rookie year, Baylor averaged 24.9 points per game and led the Lakers to the NBA Finals, where they lost to the Boston Celtics. Baylor continued to dominate the league in the next few years, averaging 32 points per game in the 1960-61 season, leading the Lakers to the NBA Finals again. He was a versatile player known for his scoring ability, rebounding, and playmaking skills.
