Festus Ezeli was born on October 21, 1989, in Benin City, Nigeria. Growing up, basketball was not his first love as he played soccer and trained as a sprinter in high school. However, his height and athleticism caught the attention of local basketball coaches who invited him to try out for a team. Ezeli quickly fell in love with the sport and started to hone his skills. Ezeli played collegiate basketball at Vanderbilt University from 2007 to 2012, where he became known for his defensive prowess and shot blocking abilities. During his senior year, he helped lead his team to the second round of the NCAA tournament while earning First Team All-SEC honors. After graduation, the Golden State Warriors selected him in the first round of the 2012 NBA draft, and he quickly made a name for himself as the team's backup center.
