Fred Brown was born on August 7, 1948, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He grew up playing basketball in his neighborhood and quickly became an exceptional player. He played college basketball at the University of Iowa, where he was a standout player for four years. He was a reliable scorer and was often called upon to make clutch shots for his team.
Brown was drafted by the Seattle SuperSonics in the first round of the 1971 NBA draft. He quickly established himself as an excellent shooter, with a deadly three-point shot that would become a hallmark of his career. Brown played for 14 seasons in the NBA, all with the Seattle SuperSonics. During his time with the team, he was a key component of their success, helping the SuperSonics to the 1979 NBA Championship. Brown was also a two-time All-Star, and his jersey number (32) was retired by the SuperSonics in 1986.
Off the court, Brown was known for his dedication and professionalism. He was a hard worker who was always looking for ways to improve his game, and he was respected by his teammates and opponents alike. After retiring from basketball, Brown stayed involved in the game, working as a coach at various levels, including in the Continental Basketball Association and as an assistant coach with the SuperSonics. His contributions to the game of basketball have been recognized by many, and he is considered one of the greatest players in the history of the Seattle SuperSonics franchise.
