Fred Jones was born on March 11, 1979, in Malvern, Arkansas. Basketball was a passion he developed at a young age, playing in his high school's varsity team where he earned All-State honors. He was recruited by the University of Oregon, where he was part of the team that made it to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament. He was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, which paved the way for his basketball career.
After college, Jones was selected in the first round of the 2002 NBA Draft by the Indiana Pacers. He played for the Pacers for four years, where he was a consistent scorer off the bench. In 2004, he won the NBA Slam Dunk Contest, becoming the first Pacers player to do so. Jones was traded to the Toronto Raptors in 2006, where he played for one season before being traded to the Portland Trail Blazers. He finished his NBA career in 2009 after playing for the Los Angeles Clippers for one season.
Jones also played for the United States national team, winning a gold medal at the 2001 Goodwill Games in Brisbane, Australia. After retiring from the NBA, Jones played overseas, including teams in China and the Philippines. Jones was known for his athleticism and versatility in his playing career, which earned him a reputation as a formidable opponent on both offense and defense. Today, Jones is a basketball analyst for the Pac-12 Network and continues to stay involved in the sport he loves.
