Gene Shue Autographs
Gene Shue is a former basketball player and coach born on December 18, 1931, from Baltimore, Maryland. He was a point guard in college, playing for the University of Maryland, where he led the Terrapins to their first-ever appearance in the NCAA tournament. After college, he played professionally for the Philadelphia Warriors and the New York Knicks before retiring in 1964.
After his playing career, Shue went on to be a successful coach in the NBA. He began his coaching career in 1966 with the Baltimore Bullets, leading them to the playoffs in four of his six seasons. He then moved on to coach the Philadelphia 76ers, where he led the team to the NBA Finals in 1977, but they ultimately lost to the Portland Trail Blazers. Shue also coached for the San Diego/Los Angeles Clippers, the Washington Bullets, and the Sacramento Kings throughout his career.
Shue's coaching career lasted from 1966 to 2003, with a career record of 784-861. He was known as a defensive-minded coach and was innovative in his use of the zone defense. He also coached several Hall of Famers, including Julius Erving, Charles Barkley, and Moses Malone. Shue's contribution to the game of basketball was significant, and his legacy will forever remain in the NBA.
