Gerald Wilkins Autographs
Gerald Wilkins was an American professional basketball player who played shooting guard in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for more than a decade. Wilkins was born on September 11, 1963, in Atlanta, Georgia. He is the younger brother of former NBA player Dominique Wilkins. Gerald Wilkins played college basketball at Chattanooga from 1982 to 1985. He was then eligible for the NBA draft in 1985, and he was selected by the New York Knicks in the second round.
During his 13-year career in the NBA, Wilkins played for four teams—the New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Vancouver Grizzlies, and Orlando Magic. He spent most of his career with the Knicks from 1985 to 1992, and in those years, he established himself as a quality shooting guard with exceptional defensive skills. Wilkins often guarded the top players, usually the opponents' shooting guard or small forward. He was also known for his deadly jump shot and spectacular dunks. In his best season, 1986-87, he averaged 19.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game.
Finishing his career with a total 10,030 points, Wilkins retired in 1999. He remains one of the most respected shooting guards of his generation, with a career average of 13.7 points per game, and he was widely regarded as one of the best defenders in the league. After his playing career, he became a basketball analyst, commentator, and sportswriter. He also coached basketball in high schools and colleges. Gerald Wilkins will always be remembered as a talented NBA player who contributed greatly to his teams, particularly the New York Knicks, and left an indelible mark on the sport.
