Brown was a top-ranked recruit in the class of 2020, and he committed to the University of Texas. He made an immediate impact in his freshman season, averaging 9.3 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.
As a sophomore, Brown declared for the 2021 NBA draft and was selected by the Portland Trail Blazers with the 43rd overall pick. He signed a two-way contract, and he played in 26 games for the Blazers during the 2021-22 season. Brown showed flashes of his potential, averaging 7.8 points and 4.2 rebounds in 18.2 minutes per game.
