Hubert Davis is a retired professional basketball player who was born on May 17, 1970, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Davis was born into a family of basketball players, his father was a college basketball coach for over thirty years, and his brother played professionally overseas. Davis attended Lake Braddock Secondary School, where he was a standout basketball player, earning him a scholarship to play at the University of North Carolina.
Davis's college career is one of his greatest accomplishments; he was a part of the North Carolina Tar Heels team that won the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament, making him the first freshman to win the tournament MVP award. Davis played for the Tar Heels for four years, helping the team reach the Final Four twice. In 1992, he was named a second-team All-American, and in 1993 he became a consensus first-team All-American, averaging 21.4 points per game.
After his college career, Davis was drafted by the New York Knicks in the first round of the 1992 NBA draft. Throughout his career, Davis played for various teams, including the Toronto Raptors, Dallas Mavericks, Washington Wizards, and the Detroit Pistons. He spent 12 seasons in the NBA and was known for his precise shooting and his ability to hit three-point shots. During his career, Davis scored 8,882 points, with a 44.1% shooting percentage from the three-point line. He retired from the NBA in 2004 and has since become an analyst for ESPN's College GameDay.
