Jack Ramsey Autographs
John Kennedy "Jack" Ramsey was born on February 21, 1925, in Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania, USA. He began his basketball career during his high school years at St. Joseph's Prep. After completing his studies, Ramsey attended St. Joseph's College in Philadelphia, where he played basketball for four years. In 1947, Ramsey was drafted by the Philadelphia Warriors, but he decided to join the Brooklyn Indians of the American Basketball League. It was here that Ramsey made a name for himself as a sharpshooter.
In 1954, Ramsey moved to the NBA and started playing for the Boston Celtics. He played as a shooting guard and small forward and was known for his tenacity and his ability to shoot the ball from all angles. In the first season that he played with the Celtics, they won the NBA championship. Ramsey played for the Celtics for a total of eight years before being traded to the St. Louis Hawks in 1960. He played for the Hawks for two seasons before he was forced to retire due to a knee injury.
After his retirement as a player, Ramsey continued his career in the NBA as a coach. He coached the Kentucky Colonels in the ABA before moving back to the NBA, where he coached the Buffalo Braves, the Portland Trail Blazers, and the Indiana Pacers. Ramsey is one of the few coaches who have won both an NBA championship and an ABA championship. He died on April 28, 2011, at the age of 86. Ramsey's contributions to the sport of basketball as a player and a coach will never be forgotten.
