Jameer Nelson was born on February 9, 1982, in Chester, Pennsylvania. He attended Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia where he played for the college basketball team, the Saint Joseph's Hawks. Nelson was a standout player for the Hawks and led them to an undefeated regular season in 2004, earning him several accolades including the Wooden Award and National Player of the Year honors.
After a successful college career, Jameer Nelson entered the 2004 NBA draft and was selected 20th overall by the Denver Nuggets. However, he was immediately traded to the Orlando Magic where he spent the majority of his NBA career. Nelson played for the Magic from 2004 to 2014, averaging 12.6 points and 5.4 assists per game during his time there. He was a key player for the team during their run to the NBA Finals in 2009 where they ultimately fell to the Los Angeles Lakers.
In addition to playing for the Magic, Jameer Nelson also played for several other NBA teams including the Dallas Mavericks, New Orleans Pelicans, and Detroit Pistons. He retired from the NBA in 2019 after a 14-year career. Nelson is widely regarded as one of the best players in Saint Joseph's University history, and his impressive career has earned him a place among the top point guards of his time.
