Jarrett Allen is a professional basketball player from Texas who currently plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was born on April 21, 1998, in San Diego, California, and grew up in Round Rock, Texas. Allen attended St. Stephen's Episcopal School in Austin, Texas, where he was a star player for the school basketball team.
In 2016, Allen attended the University of Texas at Austin and played for the Texas Longhorns men's basketball team. In his freshman year, he averaged 13.4 points per game, 8.4 rebounds per game, and 1.5 blocks per game. He was named to the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team and earned a spot on the second team All-Big 12. After only one year of playing college basketball, Allen was selected 22nd overall by the Brooklyn Nets in the 2017 NBA draft.
Allen played for the Brooklyn Nets for three seasons, where he became their starting center and established himself as one of the top defensive players in the league. In his last season with the Nets, he averaged 10.9 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game. In January 2021, Allen was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers as part of the multi-team deal that sent James Harden to the Nets. In Cleveland, Allen has continued to excel as a defensive powerhouse and is seen as a key player for the team's future success.
