Teague attended Pike High School and was a standout player on their basketball team. He went on to play college basketball for Wake Forest University where he played for three seasons before declaring for the NBA draft in 2009. In his college career, he averaged 13.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game. He was eventually selected as the 19th overall pick by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2009 NBA draft.

Teague's professional basketball career began with the Atlanta Hawks, where he played for seven seasons. He played as a point guard and quickly established himself as an essential player on the team. Teague's career highlights include being selected as an NBA All-Star in 2015 and helping the Hawks reach the Eastern Conference Finals in 2015. He has also played for the Indiana Pacers, Minnesota Timberwolves, and most recently, the Boston Celtics. In his career, he has averaged 12.6 points, 5.1 assists, and 2.4 rebounds per game.
