Jermaine O'Neal is a retired American professional basketball player who had an illustrious career in the National Basketball Association (NBA). O'Neal was born on October 13, 1978, in Columbia, South Carolina, and grew up in his hometown where he nurtured his passion for basketball. After graduating from high school, O'Neal declared for the 1996 NBA draft and was selected by the Portland Trail Blazers as the 17th overall pick.
