Jerry Colangelo Autographs
Jerry Colangelo is an American sports executive who had an illustrious career in basketball. He was born on November 20, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois. Colangelo played basketball at the University of Illinois before embarking on a career in sports management. He is best known for his role in founding the Phoenix Suns NBA franchise in 1968, which he owned until 2004.
Colangelo's career in basketball began with the formation of the United States Basketball League (USBL) in 1985, which he chaired. He also served as chairman of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame board of trustees from 2009 to 2011. Colangelo's most significant contribution to basketball was the formation of the Dream Team, which is widely regarded as the greatest basketball team ever assembled. He served as the chairman of USA Basketball from 2005 to 2009, and he was instrumental in the United States Olympic basketball team winning gold medals at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics.
Colangelo has received numerous awards and recognitions for his contributions to basketball. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as a Contributor in 2004. He was also awarded the Mannie Jackson-Bert Bell Pioneer Award in 2007 and the Olympic Order in 2014, both for his contributions to basketball. Colangelo's dedication to the sport continues to be an inspiration to many, and his leadership in the game has left a lasting impact on the sport of basketball.
