Jerry Sloan Autographs

Jerry SloanJerry Sloan was a professional basketball player and coach who is best known for his time as the head coach of the Utah Jazz. Born on March 28, 1942, in McLeansboro, Illinois, Sloan was a standout athlete in high school and went on to play college basketball at Evansville. He was selected by the Baltimore Bullets in the 1965 NBA draft and played for the team for two seasons before being traded to the Chicago Bulls. He spent the majority of his playing career with the Bulls, where he was known for his tough, physical style of play.
After retiring as a player, Sloan moved into coaching and began his career as an assistant coach for the Bulls. In 1979, he was named head coach of the Bulls and spent four seasons in that role, leading the team to the playoffs in three of those seasons. In 1988, he was named head coach of the Utah Jazz and remained in that role for 23 seasons, becoming the longest-tenured coach in NBA history.
During his time with the Jazz, Sloan was known for his emphasis on defense and his ability to develop and mentor players. He coached the team to two NBA Finals appearances in 1997 and 1998, but came up short both times against Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. Sloan retired as head coach of the Jazz in 2011, finishing with a record of 1,221 wins and 803 losses. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009 and is considered one of the greatest coaches in NBA history.
