Jim Chones Autographs
Jim Chones was born on November 30, 1949, in Racine, Wisconsin. He attended Racine Park High School where he earned All-State honors in basketball. After high school, he attended Marquette University where he played for the Marquette Warriors. During his college years, Chones helped lead Marquette to the National Invitational Tournament title in 1970. He was also named to the All-Tournament Team. After his junior year, Chones decided to leave college early to join the American Basketball Association.
Chones began his professional basketball career with the New York Nets in the ABA. In his first season, he was named to the All-Rookie Team. He joined the NBA in 1974 when the Nets merged with the NBA. He played for the Cleveland Cavaliers from 1974 to 1979 where he started every game he played in during his tenure. Chones was known for his rebounding and defense, averaging 11.2 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game during the 1976-1977 season. He was named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in 1977 and the All-Defensive First Team in 1978.
After his time with the Cavaliers, Chones went on to play for the Los Angeles Lakers and the Milwaukee Bucks before retiring in 1982. Throughout his nine-year NBA career, Chones played in 652 games and averaged 9.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game. After his playing days were over, he became a basketball analyst for various media outlets. Chones was also known for his charitable work, including starting the Jim Chones Basketball Camp for inner-city youth in Milwaukee.
