Jim Cleamons Autographs
Jim Cleamons is perhaps best known for his successful basketball playing career and coaching career. Cleamons was born on September 13th, 1949 in Lincolnton, North Carolina. He grew up with a passion for basketball and started playing in high school where he was a standout player. After high school, he attended Ohio State University where he played for the Buckeyes under legendary coach Fred Taylor.
During his college career, Cleamons helped lead the Buckeyes to three Big Ten Conference Championships, a Final Four appearance in 1968, and an NIT Championship in 1971. After college, Cleamons was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1971 NBA Draft. He played for the Lakers for six seasons and was a member of two NBA Championship teams in 1972 and 1980. Cleamons also played for the Cleveland Cavaliers and the New York Knicks before retiring in 1980.
After his playing career, Cleamons transitioned to coaching where he had a successful career at both the college and professional levels. He got his start as an assistant coach with the Lakers in 1981 and was a part of the coaching staff for five NBA Championship teams. He also coached for the Dallas Mavericks, Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Hornets, and Milwaukee Bucks. In addition to his professional coaching, Cleamons was also the head coach at Ohio State University and Western Kentucky University. Throughout his coaching career, Cleamons was known for his player development and ability to coach and mentor some of the game's greatest players, including Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron James.
