Joel Embiid was born on March 16, 1994, in Yaoundé, Cameroon. As a teenager, Embiid played volleyball and soccer before being introduced to basketball at the age of 15. He quickly developed a passion for the game and began training with Luc Mbah a Moute, a fellow Cameroonian who had played in the NBA. Embiid later attended high school in Florida and played one season at the University of Kansas, where he was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. More about Joel Embiid
