Jon Koncak Autographs
Jon Koncak was born on May 17, 1963, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and went on to become a standout basketball player at the University of Southern Methodist (SMU) in the early 1980s. Standing at 7 feet tall, Koncak's size and skills led him to be a first-round draft pick for the Atlanta Hawks in 1985. He played for the Hawks for over a decade and became known as one of the team's best defensive players. Throughout his career, Koncak averaged 5.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game.
Despite not being a high-scoring player, Koncak was a valuable member of the Hawks. He was known for his strong defensive presence and excellent shot-blocking ability. Koncak played in the NBA from 1985 to 1996, and his time with the Atlanta Hawks was the highlight of his career. During his time with the team, the Hawks made it to the playoffs nine times and reached the second round four times. In 1986, Koncak played for the US basketball team at the World Championships, where he won a gold medal.
After retiring from professional basketball, Koncak remained involved in the sport, first as a financial consultant for players, and later as an assistant coach for the Phoenix Suns. He continued to live in Georgia and was inducted into the Atlanta Sports Hall of Fame in 2008. Aside from his basketball career, Koncak was also a talented academic, earning a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from SMU while playing basketball. He later earned an MBA from George Washington University.
