Kevin Willis was born on September 6, 1962, in Los Angeles, California. He is a retired American professional basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for 22 seasons. Willis was one of the most durable and dependable players of his time, missing very few games due to injuries throughout his career. He was known for his great rebounding ability, solid defense, and exceptional shooting range.
Willis was drafted in the first round of the 1984 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks. He spent the first eight years of his career with the Hawks and was named an NBA All-Star in 1992. During the 1993-94 season, he was traded to the Miami Heat, where he played two seasons before moving on to play for various teams. His career highlights include winning an NBA Championship with the San Antonio Spurs in 2003 and being named the oldest player in NBA history to record a double-double at the age of 43 while playing for the Dallas Mavericks in 2006-07.
After retiring as a player, Willis started coaching basketball in high school and established a philanthropic program, “Willis & Friends Basketball Clinic,” which helps kids develop basketball skills while promoting healthy lifestyles. In recognition of his outstanding achievements during his long and productive NBA career, he was inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 2018. Kevin Willis will always be remembered as a remarkable athlete who gave his all every time he stepped onto the court, and as an inspiration to young players and fans.
