Lafayette Lever Autographs
Lafayette Lever, also known as "Fat" Lever, was born on August 18, 1960, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He started his basketball career at the University of Arizona, where he played for four years and established himself as one of the best point guards in the country. Lever averaged 14.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game during his college career, and he was selected in the second round of the 1982 NBA draft by the Portland Trail Blazers.
During his 11-year NBA career, Lafayette Lever played for three different teams: the Blazers, the Denver Nuggets, and the Dallas Mavericks. He is best known for his time with the Nuggets, where he played from 1984 to 1990 and became one of the most versatile players in the league. Lever was a triple-double threat every time he stepped on the court, and he led the league in triple-doubles in the 1986-87 season with 16, a record that still stands today. He was named to the All-Star team twice and was a two-time member of the All-NBA Defensive Second Team.
After retiring from basketball, Lafayette Lever stayed involved in the game as a coach and a broadcaster. He worked as an assistant coach for the Sacramento Kings and the Milwaukee Bucks, and he also served as a color commentator for the Denver Nuggets. Lever was inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame in 2015, and his jersey number 12 was retired by the Nuggets in 2017. He remains one of the most beloved and respected players in Nuggets history, and his legacy as a versatile and hardworking point guard continues to inspire young players today.
