Larry Nance Autographs
Larry Nance Sr. was born on February 12, 1959, in Anderson, South Carolina. He attended Clemson University where he played for the Clemson Tigers from 1977 to 1981. During his time in college, Nance was a standout player and became the first player in ACC history to accumulate over 1,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, and 250 blocks. He was even dubbed the "Human Eraser" for his ability to block shots.
After being drafted by the Phoenix Suns as the 20th pick in the 1981 NBA Draft, Nance went on to play a total of 13 seasons in the NBA. He spent the majority of his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he earned a reputation as a skilled defender and shot-blocker. He was also known for his high-flying dunks, which earned him a spot in the first ever Slam Dunk Contest in 1984.
In 1989, Nance was named NBA Defensive Player of the Year, becoming the first Cavalier to win the award. He was also a three-time NBA All-Star and was named to the NBA All-Defensive team twice. Additionally, Nance was recognized for his humanitarian efforts both on and off the court, winning the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award in 1993 for his work with the Boys and Girls Club. After retiring from the NBA in 1994, Nance remained involved in basketball as a coach and commentator.
